Halifax Regional Police have charged a Dartmouth man with second-degree murder in the death of Deborah Irene Yorke.

Brandon Jake Hollohan, 23, was arrested on Thursday and charged on Friday, HRP Supt. Jim Perrin said at a news conference.

Perrin provided few details on the case, but said Hollohan and Yorke knew each other.

“They were acquaintances,” he said, adding that police “have dealt with the suspect in the past.”

Yorke, 63, was found just after 4 a.m. on Sunday when police were called to 3 Farthington Pl. in Dartmouth. She died at the scene.

Police have Hollohan in custody and expect him to appear in Dartmouth provincial court on Monday.

Yorke’s death was the second homicide in Dartmouth in a few days. Late afternoon on Friday, Jan. 19, Derek Miles, 42, was pronounced dead in an apartment in the 0-100 block of Pinecrest Drive.

“There is no reason to believe either are connected with the other,” Perrin said.
