Police search Dartmouth pond for evidence related to Tyler Richards homicide

Divers searched a pond in Dartmouth on Thursday for a possible weapon related to the homicide of Tyler Bradley Richards.

Halifax Regional Police said previously found evidence led investigators to search Red Bridge Pond, near Mic Mac Mall. Investigators from the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division and a member from HRP joined the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team on Thursday’s search.

Police did not disclose the type of weapon they are searching for, while HRP spokesperson, Const. Dianne Penfound said “the press release is all we can talk about at this point.”

Richards was found dead on April 17 in a house in the 6900 block of Cook Avenue in Halifax’s west end. An autopsy ruled the 29-year-old man’s death as a homicide.

Richards was a student and basketball player for St. Francis Xavier University before playing professionally for the Halifax Rainmen. He was let go from the Halifax team after he was charged with drug and weapon offences in 2013.

Penfound said that investigators plan on returning to the scene on Friday, if the weather holds.
