A 70-year-old man died Wednesday night following a physical altercation with another resident at a continuing care facility in Dartmouth, police say.

Halifax Regional Police Const. Dianne Penfound said police were called to the nursing home, Clarmar Care Ltd., shortly before 9 p.m.

A 64-year-old man was arrested and later released without charge on Thursday evening.

Penfound said the events that led up to the altercation are under investigation, but no weapons were involved to her knowledge.

“We’re currently awaiting on the medical examiner,” she said. “Further testing is required to determine the manner of death.”

No foul play is suspected at this point.

A representative for Clarmar Care declined to comment.
