Police and the provincial government have added the homicide of 22-year-old Josiah Kaelin Sparks, from Loon Lake, to the Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes program.

The Nova Scotia government announced the decision on Tuesday afternoon.

On Sept. 14, 2017, RCMP responded to a call from family members and found the body of Sparks shortly after 8 p.m on Cherry Brook Road, Loon Lake.

Investigators said they believe Sparks was a victim of homicide between Sept. 11 and Sept. 14.

“The investigation is continuing with investigators following up on any new information,” said Cpl. Dal Hutchinson of the Halifax RCMP in an email. “The important thing is for those with information to come forward and do the right thing.”

Family members of Sparks said he was a “kind, considerate, understanding and a very lovable young man,” in the obituary.

“Someone out there knows what happened to Josiah Sparks and who is responsible for his death,” said Hutchinson. “By offering a financial incentive it’s hoped they will come forward and do the right thing by providing this information to investigators.”

The Department of Justice will provide $150,000 to anyone who has information leading to the arrest and conviction of the murderer.

The Department of Justice posts unsolved cases to the Rewards of Major Unsolved Crimes Program website.
