59 new COVID-19 cases, 2 deaths in Nova Scotia

The province announced Monday that a man in his 60s living in the East Cumberland Lodge long-term care home in Pugwash has died. The lodge has been at the centre of a COVID outbreak, but there were no new cases reported at the care home over the weekend.
The other death was a man in his 70s living in the western zone.
There are 59 new known active cases since Friday. These include 38 in the northern zone, where there are new localized outbreaks within a community, the province said.
Twenty-one of the new cases are in the central zone. The province said there is some community spread in Halifax and parts of the northern zone.
The total number of known active COVID cases now sits at 171. Thirteen of these people are hospitalized and four are in the ICU.
Nine schools have had exposure warnings since the last update on Friday.
The province’s chief medical officer of health, Dr. Robert Strang, wants people to follow public health measures, especially as the holiday season nears.
“Getting vaccinated will not only protect you but also your loved ones,” Strang said in a news release.
Vaccination for children aged 5-11 will begin on Thursday. Anyone not yet fully vaccinated or eligible for their booster shots are able to book their appointments online.
