Nova Scotia places nearly 1,000 key sector workers on unpaid leave
Deadline passes for frontline health workers, others to meet COVID-19 vaccination mandate

A woman shows a negative COVID-19 rapid test.Nearly 1,000 workers in key sectors in Nova Scotia are on unpaid leave because they didn’t met the province’s vaccination mandate.
This includes 963 employees, or 1.4 per cent of frontline workers in health care, education and other key sectors, according to statistics from the province.
These workers had until Tuesday to get vaccinated with at least one dose.
More than 99 per cent of workers in these key sectors are partially vaccinated, while 97 per cent are fully vaccinated. Nearly 2,000 have not reported.
The province also reported 20 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday.
Of these cases, 12 are in the central zone and eight cases in the northern zone. There is evidence of community spread in both zones, according to the province.
Nova Scotia has a total of 199 active cases of COVID. Thirteen people are in hospital, including five in intensive care.
