Haligonians treated to an afternoon of holiday festivities
Hundreds of Haligonians paid a visit to the upper courtyard of the Halifax Brewery Market last Sunday afternoon for the Japanese holiday market, where around 20 local vendors, most of Japanese descent, gathered to share in the seasonal festivities, as well as aspects of their culture.
The event, which was organized by Sakura Market, was the group’s second to be hosted at the Brewery Market this year, the first having taken place in September.
The goal of the market, said Lisa Arakawa, a Sakura Market organizer, was to bring together local small businesses and celebrate the local Japanese community.
Visitors spent the afternoon browsing through jewelry, homemade ornaments, Japanese inspired art and figurines for sale. They treated themselves to Japanese pastries and learned to draw in calligraphy and make origamis. Related stories
