The Halifax Hurricanes are looking to put the cloudy past of the Halifax Rainmen behind them. The Hurricanes players began their training camp at the Canada Games Centre on Tuesday.

The Hurricanes franchise takes over from the Rainmen as the professional basketball team in Halifax. The Rainmen’s tenure ended in embarrassment last season when the team did not show up to the NBL’s championship game against the Windsor Express. The Rainmen then filed for bankruptcy in July.

The Hurricanes came along with a new group of owners, but there are some familiar faces in the organization. Former Rainmen owner Andre Levingston is now the general manager of basketball operations with the Hurricanes. Levingston has also signed former Rainmen point guard Cliff Clinkscales and hasn’t ruled out bringing back more former Rainmen in the future.
