A Halifax man charged with assaulting a woman and killing a dog is due back in court next week to enter a plea.

Cameron Robert Dolan, 18, appeared briefly in Halifax provincial court Wednesday via video conference. He is currently in custody in the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility.

He is waiting for a private lawyer to take his case and told the court he would appear in person on Jan. 31.

Dolan is facing charges of assault and uttering threats, as well as:

  • injuring or endangering an animal
  • killing an animal
  • two counts of property damage
  • four counts of breaching a recognizance
  • three counts of breaching a probation order.

Halifax Regional Police said they received a report on Jan. 14 of a dispute between a man, Dolan, and a young woman Dolan knew. Police were told the woman had been assaulted the night before at a home on Herring Cove Road.

After the assault occurred, a dog was reported missing from the home and a bird was also injured.
