The Halifax Xplosion football team held a try-and-learn session to introduce basic drills for any woman who wants to try tackle football.

The team is the only women’s tackle football team in the province and it plays in the Maritime Women’s Football League.

Dave Gould is the head coach and joined the team over a year ago. He said it has been the most fun he has ever had coaching football.

“You can have adult conversations and all of that adds up to the camaraderie that we build,” said Gould.

Returning members of the team also participated in the session, such as Shana Hendsbee. She has been playing football for over a year and she said it has given her better insight into how the game works.

“When I watch my kids play [football], I have a new perspective on what they are actually doing,” said Hendsbee.

The team will resume its regular practices in the new year.
