Truth and consequences: decoding the news with BuzzFeed’s Craig Silverman

Watch the 2019 Joseph Howe lecture

As media editor at BuzzFeed News, Craig Silverman leads a team that chases and debunks online misinformation and lies around the world.

Thursday at the University of King’s College in Halifax, he delivers this year’s Joseph Howe lecture, “Decoding the News: Truth and Consequences in the 2019 Federal Election.”

The event is sponsored by the School of Journalism, and The Signal will carry Silverman’s talk live here, starting at 7:00 p.m. AT.

Silverman will talk about BuzzFeed’s partnership with the Toronto Star to monitor the recent election campaign, as well as his work on the broader misinformation beat.

He’ll also have advice for ways everyone can help limit the spread of so-called “fake news.”
