Nova Scotia Public Works Minister Kim Masland has tested positive for COVID-19.

“I am not feeling well, but thankfully my symptoms are mild and I know that the vaccine is preventing me from becoming seriously ill,” Masland said in a statement released Wednesday.

Premier Tim Houston said Masland is working with public health on contact tracing.

“When I spoke to her, she said that she couldn’t imagine how she would be feeling right now if she wasn’t fully vaccinated,” Houston said.

In her statement, Masland said she is fully vaccinated and doesn’t know how she contracted COVID. She’s worried about any friends, loved ones and constituents who she may have had contact with.

“I also want this to be a reminder that COVID-19 is still with us, and it is critical to continue to follow public health protocols,” Masland said. “Get vaccinated. Stay home if you are unwell and get tested.”

Masland was first elected to the Nova Scotia house of assembly as MLA for Queens-Shelburne in 2017. She was re-elected in 2021 in the redrawn Queens riding.

The province reported 20 new COVID cases on Wednesday. There are 236 known active cases, with 17 people in the hospital, including seven in the ICU.
