Province reports 38 new cases related to St. Francis Xavier outbreak
More cases are expected in the coming days

Nova Scotia reported 52 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday.The COVID-19 case count at St. Francis Xavier University rose to 59 after the province reported 38 new related cases.
The province said they have not found any evidence of community transmission or spread in classrooms or residences. Nova Scotia’s chief medical officer of health, Dr. Robert Strang, believes vaccines have played their role in controlling the virus.
“The vaccine is doing its job by limiting spread and keeping symptoms mild, so this outbreak is very different from what we’ve seen in previous wave four outbreaks,” he said in a news release on Thursday.
The government said that the school, students and the community have been very co-operative in complying with public health investigation advice, including testing.
The province also said those infected at St. Francis Xavier are experiencing mild symptoms, because most of those infected are young and fully vaccinated. More cases are expected in coming days.
On Thursday, Nova Scotia recorded 52 new cases, taking the total tally of active cases to 194. Out of the active cases, nine people are in hospital, including four in ICU.
There are 29 cases in central zone, 18 in eastern zone, three cases in northern zone and two cases in western zone.
