The Signal Podcast goes deep on election and voter issues

The Signal audio reporters look at issues around the Nov 26 vote

The Nova Scotia provincial election is on November 26. So this week, The Signal’s audio reporters looked into voting technology, ongoing work to include voters, what’s at stake this election and more.

A new voting technology was introduced at polling stations for the first time. Mathew Bambrick asked voters their thoughts on the new e-ballot system.

In 2021, only 39% of those aged 18-24 voted. A story by Connor Parent explores how student advocacy organizations are trying to encourage a better voter turnout among this group.

While some underrepresented groups are the targets of voting outreach initiatives, others are left behind. Olivia Piercey covers how some voters experiencing homelessness don’t know where and how to vote.

Gabrielle McLeod looks into how Nova Scotians feel about the cost of living, and how that could change this election.

The Coastal Protection Act aimed to protect vulnerable coastlines from new building developments, until it was traded for a different plan by the Progressive Conservatives’  government. Elena Neufeld finds out why some environment activists hope this election will mean a return to the original.

And moving away from politics, Ella Karan reports on why a student group aims to educate the public on brain health and the consequences of concussions.
