A new 10-storey residential and commercial building on Dartmouth’s Windmill Road has been greenlit for further discussion by community council.

The Harbour East – Marine Drive Community Council met Tuesday to formally introduce the motion for the building and schedule a public hearing.

If approved, the building would be located at 396, 398 and 400 Windmill Rd., and have approximately 70 residential units and 1,375 square metres of commercial space. At least 50 per cent of the residential units would have a minimum two bedrooms. The plan also includes an indoor parking lot for 82 cars.

The lot is currently occupied by The Ship Victory, a bar and grill restaurant. The surrounding area is made up of residential buildings and businesses including a car dealership, a collision centre, parking lots and Nova Scotia Power facilities.

The application for the building was made in late 2018 by SNM Architect Ltd., an architecture and planning firm based in Bedford N.S.

The public hearing on the proposal is scheduled for March 7 in Dartmouth at the HEMDCC Meeting Space at Alderney Gate.
