A woman suffered minor injuries when a man armed with a knife stole her purse Sunday night.

RCMP said a 49-year-old woman was walking alone on a wooded trail near 99 Cobequid Rd. in Lower Sackville at about 9 p.m.

A man approached and waved a knife, RCMP said, and there was a struggle before the man ran off with the woman’s bag.

The woman was treated and later released from the Cobequid Health Centre.

Const. Tammy Lobb says the armed robbery appears to be a random act.

“It does happen,” she said Monday. “There are no statistics, but it is a growing problem that we are hearing a lot of.”

It happened in a secluded area.

“If somebody were to have an emergency or needs some assistance there might not be as many people in that particular area to help,” said Lobb.

The suspect is described as a white man with a slim build, 18 to 20 years old, and about 5’8″ tall. He had a beard and was wearing a dark coloured hoodie and jeans.

Anyone with information is asked to call RCMP or Halifax police at 902-490-5020, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
