Sparks, Ritch found guilty of murder in Nadia Gonzales stabbing

A jury found Calvin Joel (CJ) Maynard Sparks, 26, and Samanda Rose Ritch, 22, guilty of first-degree murder.

The jury came back with its verdict Saturday after more than a day of deliberations.

Nadia Gonzales, 35, was found in a black bag in a stairwell of an apartment building in Dartmouth on June 16, 2017. She had been stabbed more than 30 times.

John Patterson, 72, was with Gonzales that evening at 33 Hastings Dr. He suffered several stab wounds and was found injured outside.

Sparks and Ritch were found not guilty of attempted murder.

The jury found Sparks guilty of assault causing bodily harm, while Ritch was acquitted of that charge.
