“The Labyrinth” is one of the last historically trans houses in Halifax.
The Labyrinth’s current resident, Laura Shepherd, describes it as one of a series of houses in Halifax that have been passed from between people within the trans community.
Shepherd says the trans community faces challenges in housing and employment that are not actively discussed.
“We don’t talk about any of the ways in which our systemic forms of discrimination impact both people in their lives, in housing, and to the detriment of our economy.”
The Signal’s Lara Lewis sits down with Shepherd and discusses discrimination, housing and intersectionality.
